Melbourne Cup replica stolen from Diggers Rest cafe

The 2017 Melbourne Cup replica was stolen from a Diggers Rest cafe at the weekend.

Police have been told thieves forced entry to Houdini’s Cafe e Cucina some time between 11.30pm on Sunday, October 6 and 10.30am on Monday, October 7.

Once inside, the offenders ransacked the premises and stole the cash register, cash and the cup.

The cafe’s owners have asked for the public’s assistance to locate the valuable trophy.

“We appreciate any information of its whereabouts or if anyone has seen or heard anything to contact us. Let’s get the cup back to its rightful owner,” a cafe spokesperson wrote in a Facebook post.

Melton police are investigating the incident.
