A man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries after he was found lying in a gutter in Melton.
Police were called to Westmelton Drive, near Rathdowne Circuit, about 1.10am Wednesday following reports of an alleged hit-and-run.
A short time later a 22-year-old man believed to be involved in the alleged collision handed himself in to police.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said paramedics treated the victim, who is aged in his 30s, at the scene.
“He was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition,” the spokesman said.

Police have established a crime scene and say Westmelton Drive will be closed “for some time”.
