Man arrested after siege in Weir Views

Police have arrested a man following a firearms incident in Weir Views on Tuesday, November 12.

Police confirmed the incident began with an aggravated carjacking in Snake Valley earlier in the day, involving a 70-year-old victim.

The vehicle observed around the Melton area about 3.40pm.

The vehicle was monitored by the Police Air Wing to Leon Drive, when the man got out of the car and fired shots at police.

The allegedly armed man then entered a house on Leon Drive where two occupants, a man and a toddler not known to him, were inside at the time.

Police continued to negotiate with the man and the man and toddler were able to leave the address.

The occupants and police were not physically injured in the incident.

Police allege the man fired at police once again, with police returning fire and the police dog was deployed to assist with the arrest just after 6pm.

The man sustained a dog bite injury during the arrest and was taken to hospital under police guard for treatment.

Police have cordoned off the area and a crime scene has been established.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.

There is no ongoing threat to the public.

The man, a 26-year-old from Snake Valley is currently being treated at Melbourne Hospital.

Police said he will likely be charged multiple offences on Wednesday, November 13, including attempted aggravated carjacking, aggravated burglary, and contact endangering life.
