Man arrested after alleged attempted theft of car in Deanside

A Deer Park man has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to steal a car in Deanside on Sunday night.

Police said it is alleged the man jumped over a fence to access a residential village on Mushu Street, Deanside, about 11pm.

He allegedly entered a BMW sedan parked in the driveway of a unit before he was confronted by the owner.

The man exited the car and fled the scene on foot.

Police arrested the man nearby in Gerlzonda Avenue, Deanside, about 11.25pm.

During the arrest, police allegedly located knuckle dusters, a butterfly knife, and drugs in his possession.

He was taken to hospital for assessment and released with intent to summons.

It is expected the 26-year-old Deer Park man will be charged with assaulting and resisting police, possessing methylamphetamine, and possessing prohibited and controlled weapons.

He will appear before a court at a later date.
