Lost pets wait for death row reprieve

Wanna give a furry friend a new home, a life and love? Here’s your chance.

Pet rescue organisations will visit PETstock Bacchus Marsh on National Pet Adoption Day to highlight the plight of hundreds and thousands of homeless animals waiting in limbo for their chance to live.

PetRescue co-founder Vickie Davy said more than 100,000 Australian pets had been euthanised after ending up in pounds last year.

And this is a statistic she says needs to be changed.

“Our goal is to turn heartbreak into hope for orphaned pets,” Ms Davy said. “If just one in five pet seekers chose to adopt a pet instead of (buying one), we could end pet homelessness Australia wide.”

Ms Davy said most animals had not been abandoned because of behavioural issues, but because of changes in owners’ circumstances.

PetRescue will visit the Bacchus Marsh store, 216 Main Street, from 10am until 2pm on Sunday, February 5.
