Footballers will not have to play in “dwindling light” at Darley Park again thanks to a federal grant towards its upgrade.
Darley Football Netball Club administrator Ray Newton said users were thrilled with a $150,000 boost to upgrade lighting around the oval.
“We are delighted to have had a lot of our club volunteers’ hard work finally rewarded with funding for the very much-needed lighting upgrade,” Mr Newton said.
The club and other park tenants will split the balance of the $300,000 project with Moorabool council.
“The project works have just gone out to tender and it is hopeful that this will occur over the course of this year,” Mr Newton said.
“Significant modifications to the power supply delivery at Darley Park must be undertaken first.”
Ballarat MP Catherine King said the announcement would “make a real difference to this community club”.
“This lighting upgrade will bring Darley Park up to the standard of facilities shared by many other sporting grounds across the Ballarat electorate,” Ms King said.
“No more will juniors and seniors have to train in dwindling light, and it will open up new possibilities as the three tenant clubs continue to grow.
“I am sure Darley Football Netball Club, Darley Junior Football Netball Club and Darley Cricket Club will make the most of their updated facilities,”
