The Liberal party has committed to reviewing Melton’s bus services if it id successful in the state election next week.

The promise came as a part of a $160 million package for improved bus services across the state announced at the beginning of November.

Part of the funding will go toward reviewing bus services in the Melton area with a view to increasing routes and services in areas such as Eynesbury and Thornhill Park.

Melton council has been calling for major parties to commit to reviewing bus services in the area, as has been promised for the rest of the north.

Modelling of possible bus network reconfigurations is available on council’s new interactive transport prospectus, Moving Melton.

Liberal leader Matthew Guy said people shouldn’t have to rely on taxis or rideshare services to get to a train station, a bus should get them there.

“We will deliver an affordable, better public transport system so Victorians can put those savings into what really matters,” he said.

Labor has made a pre-election commitment to add a new bus service between Eynesbury and Melton, and announced a new service between Sunbury and Diggers Rest stations, but have not committed to the full review.
