With approximately 587 people living with dementia in Moorabool, an upcoming information session will be held in Bacchus Marsh to increase awareness and understanding of dementia and available support.

Hosted by Dementia Australia at Lerderderg Library as a full-day program, the session will include presentations on understanding dementia, creating a dementia-friendly community, Dementia Australia’s peer support program, and presentations from local health professionals.

This will include a presentation by doctor Mark Yates on the local Cognitive Dementia and Memory Service (CDAMS) available, with an interactive question and answer session at the end.

It also includes an information session on advocacy and Dementia Australia’s Connecting Peers program and a presentation by community health nurses Heather Barker and Helen Borg.

Moorabool residents impacted by dementia and those who would like to learn more about the condition are encouraged to attend.

Without a medical breakthrough, it is expected that the number of people living with dementia in Moorabool will increase to about 1090 people by 2054.

The free program will run from 9am–5pm at the Lerderderg Library at 215 Main Street, Bacchus Marsh.

Registrations for the event are essential and can be made online or by contacting the National Dementia Helpline on 1800 100 500.
