Lapping up swim thrills

Melton swimmers made a splash at the recent state championships.

Tihema Holman and Layla Mahfouz (pictured) were among 26 members of the Melton Swimming Club who competed at the South Australian Long Course State Championships in Adelaide earlier this year.

Club spokesman Simon Smith said Melton was well represented across all age groups.

“There was a lot of success by the swimmers placing in both relay and individual events … and all swimmers gaining personal best times,” Mr Smith said. “Some great performances from our team events included a silver medal in the girls’ 12 and under freestyle relay, followed up by a bronze in the medley relay. Many swimmers made finals in a tough field.”

Standouts in the individual events included Layla, who took home gold from the 12 and under 400-metre freestyle and 200-metre butterfly events and five silver medals.

Tihema came away with sliver from the 12 and under 200-metre breaststroke and backstroke events. Bronze medals went to Chiara Hutchinson (12 and under) and Lauren Jones (18 and under).
