At Kurunjang Secondary College, the year 10s are boss.

Twenty-four students wore their entrepreneurial caps throughout term 3 by setting up a lunchtime milkshake stall.

The project was sponsored by the Foundation for Young Australians’ ‘$20 Boss’ initiative, aimed at instilling in teenagers entrepreneurial and leadership skills. Business management teacher Lee Hauser said: “The students basically ran the whole show”.

“We even made a profit of $200. Making a profit in any business is hard, so I’m really proud of the students.”

And in true ‘boss’ style, the students decided to donate the money to charity.

Mr Hauser said teaching students how to run a business was necessary in today’s digital age when hundreds of small, online businesses were popping up.

“The students learned a lot about themselves and taking control of their own learning,” he said.

“And they learned about their ability to run a business.”

According to Mr Hauser, the milkshakes were the best that students and staff had ever enjoyed.
