Kinder theft ’disruption’

Copper piping and a water meter were snatched from a Maddingley kindergarten last night, causing a ‘major disruption’.

With the theft happening overnight at the West Maddingley Early Years & Community Hub on McCormacks Road, the centre was closed by Moorabool council today, September 1.

According to council, the hub will potentially be closed for most of this week, and along with all scheduled services being cancelled today, there could be further cancellations throughout the week.

Moorabool mayor Paul Tatchell said that these types of crimes are an ongoing problem.

“[They] are a major disruption to our kindergartens, schools, sporting and community groups. They are costly and take time to fix, putting everyone out,” Cr Tatchell said.

“We urge anyone with information on this West Maddingley incident or any thefts of water meters or other assets to contact police,” he said.

The incident was reported to Victoria Police at 9.30am this morning, and a Police spokesperson said the theft was under investigation.

“Police are investigating after copper piping and a water [meter] were stolen from a building on McCormacks Road, Maddingley overnight. The investigation into the incident is ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
