Kinder basks in community warmth

Melton Uniting Kindergarten is experiencing a wave of community support as it finalises its annual fundraising drive.

After reaching out to local businesses in term two, the kindergarten has received donations of money, goods and services valued at more than $4000.

Fundraising committee member Elise Soderblom said the response from the community had been overwhelming.

“Every year we do general fundraising … things like raffles, silent auctions or chocolate drives,” Ms Soderblom said.

“This year we decided to approach the general public – and the response has just been incredible. I’m still getting calls and it looks like the donations will continue to come in through the holidays.

“A lot of people in Melton have an association with the community in some way, because we’ve been around for so long.”

Ms Soderblom said the support from the community and local businesses would allow for much-needed upgrades at the kindergarten.

“Some of the goods and services that have been donated will be part of future raffles and silent auctions, so this will flow on to future fundraisers,” she said.

“We aren’t really a business as such, so we rely on things like this to keep us going. I think we will be looking at putting in some new shade sails outside for the kids, and some new blinds on the verandah. And we always need more Lego.

“I can’t thank the business and donors enough for their generosity towards us – it’s very much appreciated.”
