Good planets are hard to find and the kids at Melton South Primary School are having fun doing their bit for ours.

Last week, the pupils took part in a “Creature-Making Night”, using recyclable materials to sculpt their very own critters of all sorts.

The night of creativity was aimed at the school’s student body gaining a better understanding of reducing, reusing and recycling, according to technology teacher Donna Teven.

“Kids have been collecting stuff all year, like cardboard boxes and bottles,” she said. “We’re starting to get the kids more aware of what they can reuse.”

Another goal of the creative session was to encourage interaction between home and school, with parents and family members helping craft the recycled artworks.

“We want to stay a community school so we’re working with families on joint ventures,” Ms Teven said.

“Parents love joining in and working with the kids, and kids enjoy showcasing what they’re doing in class.”
