New mayor Goran Kesic wants to make sure Melton is an area of opportunity and growth.
The city is one of Australia’s fastest growing areas with the need for new and upgraded infrastructure to keep up with demand, he said.
“There is so much infrastructure that our city needs so I’ll be focusing on how we can work together with the state and federal governments on major projects,” Cr Kesic said.
Those projects include upgrades to the western and Melton highways, electrifying the Melton line and the final delivery of Melton hospital.
Cr Kesic, who was elected to lead the council last week, also said job creation is at the top of his priority list.
“I want to ensure that the City of Melton is a place people aspire to live and work –raise their families. So job creation is really important to our residents and will be the key to a more liveable future.
“The major investment we’re advocating for will make a big difference to attract commercial investments and help create thousands of local jobs.”
Cr Kesic said he was “delighted” when his fellow council members voted to elect him as mayor.
“I’m really looking forward to representing the community as mayor and working together with the councillors,” he said.
As deputy mayor, Cr Kesic said taking on responsibilities of that role “was a great foundation for stepping up to my own mayoral duties.”
Former mayor Lara Carli replaces Cr Kesic as deputy mayor.
“I think we’ll be able to support each other strongly in our roles to represent our community. She’s a great councillor and a great person to learn from,” Cr Kesic said.
He also said he is thankful to Cr Kathy Majdlik “for her hard work and dedication to the community in her term as the mayor over the last 12 months.”
Cr Kesic encouraged the community to get in touch with ward councillors or himself, attend virtual meetings and give feedback via the council’s conversation page.
