For 40 years, Julie Walsh has volunteered tirelessly at the Melton Swimming Club.
Whether it’s coaching or being on the committee, Ms Walsh has dedicated her life to the sport and community she loves.
She’s held every committee role and this year is club secretary. And she said she had no plans to hang up the goggles and retire any time soon.
“I still really enjoy watching the kids achieve and have fun,” Ms Walsh said.
After being nominated for Swimming Australia’s 2018 Optus Local Legend of the Year, Ms Walsh has now been selected as the Victorian finalist. The awards recognise volunteers at swimming clubs.
Ms Walsh says she was humbled about being named a finalist.
“I’m still pinching myself that all this is happening,” she said. “I’ve had a couple of certificates [at a local level] but never the recognition I’ve had this year – it’s quite overwhelming.”
The Melton Swimming Club stalwart earlier this year received a Swimming Victoria Volunteer of the Year award.
The local legend award winner will be announced at a dinner on Saturday, October 27.
