Joshua McConnell is looking to blow his competition out of the water at the Wakeboard Australia national championships this week.
The Bacchus Marsh 19 year-old is off to Renmark in South Australia this Thursday (March 15) to take on 20 of Australia’s best in the amateur men’s division for 19 to 29-year-olds.
McConnell is no stranger to competing at the highest level.
In the past five years, he’s picked up two Victorian open professional championship titles and a top-five placing in the world secured in Toronto last year.
“Dad got me into [wakeboarding] and I’ve been doing it since I was 11,” he said.
“It’s like snowboarding on water.
“I love it and I’m pretty confident going into the weekend.
“Every chance I get, I’m on the water training. I’ve been at the gym and trying to stay healthy … and I’m looking to take away the top spot.”
McConnell thanked all his supporters and sponsors for helping him reach nationals.
