When eight-year-old Emily heard about the plight of Australian farmers, it spurred her to take action.
“I think it’s very bad their animals are getting really badly sick because they don’t have enough water or food,” Emily says.
“When I found out I wanted to save some money for them.”
She wrote a letter to the junior school council at Myrniong Primary School to help her raise money for drought-stricken farmers.
Pupils dressed up as farmers for the day and held a range of activities, including laying a silver-coin trail measuring 164.5 metres. The school raised more than $1000.
“I think I will like to organise more fundraisers because I like having fundraisers and I like raising money for farmers, and all the people that are sick, and animals,” Emily says.
