Children of Melton City Council Family Day Care were in for a big surprise on Wednesday, May 3, with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic held at Melton Town Hall for National Family Day Care Week.
National Family Day Care Week runs yearly during the first week of May, celebrating the important role family day care educators and services play in the development and wellbeing of over 85,000 Australian children.
More than 45 educators, parents and children attended the free Melton event which had games and activities, arts and crafts, singing and dancing, goodie-bags, and a visit from Melton’s Fairy Rainbow.
For the adults there was information about family day care available for families and educators.
Melton City Council Family Day Care supports 28 family day care educators in running their own small businesses to provide families and children with access to quality education and care within a nurturing and natural home environment.
Family Day Care Australia chief executive Andrew Paterson said National Family Day Care Week is a “wonderful time for the family day care sector to come together nationally and reflect on the crucial role family day care plays in the lives of Australian children, families and communities”.
“It is great seeing services such as Melton City Council Family Day Care taking part in the celebrations,” he said.
City Life director Troy Scoble said the day was a chance to acknowledge the “unique benefits” of family day care for children, in providing tailored care services like after-hours care and transport options.
“It was lovely to see a great turn out today with Melton families and community members enjoying free activities on this chilly morning,” he said.
