A year 12 student is proving that perseverance pays off after he achieved a near-perfect VET score.

Jamel Cabucol received the Principal’s Award at the Melton Christian College Western Edge Cluster Awards.

Principals from eight schools across Melton, Moorabool and Brimbank nominate one student to receive this prestigious award, and with a top score in his VET course at Melton Christian College, Jamel stood out.

Principal David Gleeson said Jamel displayed “outstanding effort and outstanding results”.

“Jamel has demonstrated commitment and perseverance and the resulting success is evident in his achievement,” Mr Gleeson.

Jamel said he has been working hard with a keen eye on his future.

“My goal was to achieve certificate level in order to work next year in the field as an allied health assistant. I am hoping to either get into nursing or paramedics,” he said.

“It means a lot since this award shows me that I have achieved good grades throughout the course … I am honoured to receive it.”

VET co-ordinator Amanda Kirsten said Jamel was a quiet achiever.

“Throughout his senior years he’s been passionate about heading into paramedicine when he graduates, and this fueled the decision to incorporate a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance into his VCE program,” Ms Kirsten said.

“Driven by his dream, Jamel has worked hard throughout the course to achieve remarkable results and the honour of this year’s Principal’s Award. If all paramedics are anything like Jamel, the future of nursing is in good hands.”
