The state government has announced today an expansion of flexible, on-demand bus services to Melton South.

FlexiRide is a service with no fixed route that allows residents to pre-book a seat via the FlexiRide Melton South app or phone and be directed to their closest bus stop.

Either a physical or appropriate alternative location will be suggested and the rider will be picked up and transported to dedicated hubs.

Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll said the expansion is designed to improve connectivity and flexibility of buses in Melbourne.

“Improving our public transport network means more people can choose to leave their cars at home knowing they can catch a reliable bus service,” Mr Carroll said.

Melton MP Stephen McGhie said the significant population growth in the area means its vital public transport is accessible and reliable.

Four new buses will connect passengers to key destination hubs including Cobblebank Station, Melton Station, Woodgrove Shopping Centre, Melton Bus Interchange, schools in Melton South and Thornhill Park.

“FlexiRide will give local residents direct access to community facilities, ongoing transport options and education precincts,” Mr McGhie said.

The app provides users with real-time information, so passengers know exactly when their service is arriving.

The extension of FlexiRide follows successful trials in Rowville, and through Lilydale, Mooroolbark, and Croydon.

FlexiRide in Melton South will launch on December 12 with services operating from 6am to 9.30pm on weekdays, 7am to 9.30pm on Saturdays and 8am to 9.30pm on Sundays and public holidays.
