Residents and businesses are being invited to help shape the planning for a potential upgrade of the Western Freeway between Melton and Caroline Springs.
Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) is currently developing a business case to assess what upgrades are needed and how much they will cost, and is seeking feedback from the community to help inform planning.
The potential upgrade would improve safety, traffic flow, freeway access and capacity to accommodate growing demand on this increasingly busy section of freeway.
MRPV will use the feedback to better understand how the community uses this part of the freeway, their views on safety, traffic flow, and what should be considered during the planning process.
Options being considered to upgrade the Western Freeway between Harkness and Christies roads to include additional road lanes, new interchanges and overpasses, upgrades to existing interchanges, upgrades to walking and cycling paths, traffic signal and street lighting improvements, and public transport priority facilities.
MRPV project development director Michael McClean said residents and businesses are encouraged to have their say to help inform our planning for a potential upgrades.
“We want to hear from the people and businesses who use this part of the freeway,” he said.
“We want to know any concerns you have and what we should consider in our planning to help ensure the potential upgrade delivers the best outcome for the community.”
Planning work is underway for MRPV to gather a clear picture of the area, understand environmental and social impacts, develop design options, and confirm scope and costs of different options.
At times during the investigations, traffic control measures including temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits may be in place. Traffic disruption will be kept to a minimum, and busy periods will be avoided.
The business case is anticipated to be complete in late 2024.
Residents and local businesses can have their say online by December 3 or in person during community pop-up sessions at Woodgrove Shopping Centre on Thursday, November 23, from 11am-2pm, Woodlea Town Centre on November 23 from 4-7pm and CS Square on Saturday, November 25, from 9am-12pm.
