Hair-razing decision

It might be winter but Melton’s Rylie Kovacic is ready to rock a bald head for a while.

The 19-year-old, whose curly hair is about 35 centimetres long, is shaving her head at the end of this month to raise money for the Cancer Council in honour of the loved ones she’s lost to the disease.

“When my auntie was diagnosed with cancer she always told me, ‘No you’re not shaving your hair’, she didn’t want me to lose my locks.

“But she sadly passed away two years ago and I just thought, ‘Why not?’ I just want to help.”

Both of Rylie’s grandparents died of leukaemia and her mother has battled through breast cancer and survived.

“It’s a really important cause for me,” she said. “I’ll be live streaming the event on my Facebook page.”

Rylie has already raised about $500 and encourages everyone to donate online.
