More than $67 million will be spent on projects in Melton as part of the state government’s Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC) fund.
The GAIC is funded by contributions from developers buying and developing land in Melbourne’s growth suburbs, including Melton, and helps with the cost of infrastructure projects.
As reported by Star Weekly, $35 million will go towards a new school in Cobblebank.
The government has also allocated $15 million for a new government school in Rockbank North, $11 million for a share user path along Hopkins Road, $1.3 million for active transport connections along Taylors Road and $4 million for a shared user path over the proposed new Fraser Road bridge over the rail corridor.
Melton MP Steve McGhie described the funding as “great news” for the community, while Kororoit MP Luba Grigorovitch said the government was building schools and cycling and walking paths to ensure people can access jobs, schools and services.
Ms Allan said the funding is extremely important for areas experiencing rapid growth, such as the Melton municipality.
“We know more Victorians want to live close to transport, schools and essential services – and this investment will deliver exactly the kind of infrastructure Victorian families need in our fastest growing suburbs,” she said.
