Melton and Moorabool residents affected by last month’s torrential rainfall and flooding are being urged to apply for federal government funding.
Victorian senator Scott Ryan said the Natural Disaster and Recovery Arrangements funding would help local residents recover from impacts of the floods.
The State Emergency Service responded to eight incidents in the municipalities between September 12 and 23.
Senator Ryan urged people adversely affected to contact the Victorian Emergency Recovery Information service.
“Heavy rain caused the flooding of many of Melton’s waterways,” Senator Ryan said. “I thank the responders from organisations like the SES for keeping the community safe.”
A Counter Disaster Operations and Restoration of Essential Public Assets grant is also available for Melton council to undertake counter-disaster works, including clean-up activities and restoration of damaged community infrastructure.
Scores of Melton and Moorabool roads were closed a fortnight ago with several water catchments flooded, including the Werribee River in Ballan.
