Grant wins for Burnside

Burnside community groups have been given a boost from Modeina Community Fund.

Eleven not-for-profit local organisations received grants of $500 or $1000 at a fund presentation last week held at the estate on Lexington Drive, Burnside.

Dennis Family Corporation founder Bert Dennis presented cheques totalling $12,500.

“These organisations are essential components of building a community,” he said.

“We see the importance of providing funds in the early stages to enable community groups to grow and develop social harmony.”

The Modeina Community Fund grants were available to not-for-profit groups operating in Melton for more than 12 months.

Utsav Malayalee Samaj, a group that represents the Keralite community, was one of the recipients.

Group president Siniya Joseph said the grant would be used to promote the group’s “Donate life … The Greatest Gift” project.

“The grant from Dennis Family Corporation will help us pay for posters, banners and events to promote the organ donation cause,” she said.

The group has joined with DonateLife Victoria to raise awareness of organ donation and the importance of signing up to the Australian Organ Donation Register.

In the 16 years that the Dennis Family Corporation has been operating community funds, more than $600,000 has been distributed to community organisations.
