Police nabbed 47 drivers in Moorabool and 28 in Melton for offences during the grand final long weekend.
Operation Scoreboard, which ran until midnight on October 4, detected almost 4000 offences across the state, including 2167 speeding offences, 837 unregistered vehicles and 397 drivers disobeying traffic signals.
One in nine drivers tested for drugs returned positive results.
In Moorabool, police detected 36 speeding offences, three drink-drivers, three driving while disqualified offences, two unlicensed drivers, two drivers disobeying traffic signals and five unregistered vehicles.
In Melton, police caught one drug-affected driver, one disqualified and three unlicensed, seven unregistered vehicles, nine speeding offences, one driver on a mobile phone, one disobeying a traffic signal and four not wearing seat belts.
Assistant commissioner Doug Fryer said the number of impaired drivers was very concerning.
“Each one of these drivers are lucky we caught them before they killed themselves or someone else,” he said.
“Now that the weather is warming up and we are moving into the spring racing and holiday season, we need the community to understand that being irresponsible on the road can lead to death or serious injury.”
