The much-loved Mother’s Day Classic will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, honouring those affected by breast cancer and raising funds for research.

The event will be held on Sunday May 8 and see attendees getting active by participating in a walk or run at 70 locations across the country.

This year, Melton and Moorabool residents can get involved in local events at Eynesbury or Caroline Springs.

Eynesbury event organiser Melanie Oakley said the event was valued and “held dearly” by local residents, as members of the community had been affected by breast cancer.

“I’m looking forward to seeing families know that their efforts are going towards research and knowing that everyone is participating for a positive reason, to help omit things that have happened in the past for some families,” she said.

Ms Oakley said organisers were planning to make the day filled with fun, as pandemic restrictions affected the event over the past couple of years.

“We’re certainly making it a family environment, with activities and face painting for children, it’ll be a real community event,” she said.

With the event back at full capacity this year, Ms Oakley said she expected to raise more than $10,000 in funds on the day, after raising $6,000 through donations and participation alone in 2021.

“It’ll be a good day for families, with quite a few surprises as well,” Ms Oakley said.

“Who doesn’t love walking or running through the Eynesbury forest, for a good cause with friends?”
