Hundreds of pooches of all shapes, sizes and breeds have been welcomed at the Melton Dog Obedience club over four decades.
The club will mark its 40th anniversary this month and is inviting past and present members to celebrate.
President Arly Kendall said the club has been a pillar for pet owners in Melton.
“The club was formed in March 1979 by a group of local citizens that said they wanted a more structured dog obedience school,” Ms Kendall said.
“We now have 65 members, 10 life members – six of those who are still involved in the club – and two of the original founding members, Bill Allison and Gordon Templeton, are also still involved.”
The group started at Northcott Street reserve, moved to MacPherson Park before operating at Coburn Primary School for 20 years. Two years ago, the club moved back to Northcott Street.
“It’s special that we’ve returned to where it all began to celebrate this anniversary,” Ms Kendall said.
A celebration will be held on Sunday March 31 at 11am.
