Melton Primary School pupils have given up their pre-loved toys, books and games to raise money for the Ugandan Water Project.
The project is aimed at providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene resources to communities in Uganda.
The school held an op-shop sale on Monday to raise $2000 towards building a well in the poverty-stricken country.
Grade 5 teacher Angela Vacarro said the children drove the entire project.
“We brainstormed about what type of event we could use to raise money and the kids came up with lots of ideas,” Ms Vacarro said. “The children have done everything – they’ve organised it, put the notice out to the school community, donated their unwanted items for the op-shop.
“It’s about the children learning about the global community and how they can make a difference.”
Community members were welcome to contribute to the school’s fundraising project at the school office, she said.
