Mt Egerton Primary School will share in a funding injection to retain its tutors that have supported pupils throughout 2021.

The school, located on Church Street, will be one of 25 government primary and secondary schools to share in $2.4 million for the tutoring program.

In 2021, the Tutors in Schools program enabled all Victorian government schools to employ over 6400 tutors to support more than 160,000 students across the state.

The funding ensures the tutor program can successfully continue into 2022.

In addition to this cash splash for support, Mt Egerton will also be provided with $14,410 to construct a permanent shade structure over the playground at the front of the school.

Buninyong MP Michaela Settle said the shade sail would be a welcome addition to the playground.

“At the moment the sun hits the playground area just around lunchtime, so it can get really hot,” Ms Settle said.

“The new shade sail means students at Mt Egerton can still enjoy the outdoors while being protected from the sun.”

This funding is part of round six of the School Shade Grants program.

Through the program, the Victorian government is helping children to be sun smart and prevent skin cancer, while still embracing the great outdoors and keeping fit, active and healthy.
