The state government has announced more free primary care options for children and families, including those in Melton and Moorabool, in order to ease pressure on the healthcare system.
Respiratory clinics, designed specifically for children, will open in the coming weeks.
The first clinic will open next week, located near the Royal Children’s Hospital, with a second to open near Monash Children’s Hospital next month.
The two paediatric-focused clinics will provide free and immediate treatment for children with low to moderate respiratory symptoms and conditions.
Together, the two clinics will treat 150 patients, with no medicare card required, and be open in the evenings.
They will also provide Telehealth options for patients who have COVID-19.
Victorian premier Daniel Andrews said the government was aware the demand for healthcare services would continue, as respiratory symptoms were likely to increase with the arrival of spring.
“Kids with respiratory illnesses are presenting to emergency departments in record numbers,” he said.
“These clinics are part of our plan to ease pressure on Victoria’s health system and ensure that all Victorians can access the care they need, sooner, and closer to home.”
