Melton residents can now dispose of green waste for free during November and December at the Melton recycling facility.
Available to all residents in Melton, the initiative from the Melton council is a way to encourage people to prepare for the upcoming fire season.
The council have listed ways to stay fire-safe, including reducing the amount of fire fuel present on your property, clearing gutters and roof areas of leaf litter, cutting back overhanging tree branches close to property and cutting grass to less than 10cm.
The free disposal program comes with conditions, including no mixed loads, limbs and branches only up to 30cm in diameter, no commercial operators or commercial loads and trucks are not permitted.
The Melton recycling facility is open 7 days a week, 8am to 4.30pm and the free disposal will be available until December 31 (except for Christmas Day).
