Free green waste disposal for Melton

Melton council is encouraging locals to prepare for the upcoming fire season by tidying up their properties and disposing of their green waste for free until 12 January.

Council is offering the free green waste disposal to all Melton property owners and renters at the Melton Recycling Centre.

Residents looking to get rid of their green waste are told to bring their valid identification and proof of residency upon arrival to the facility.

Mayor Lara Carll said it’s important for residents to prepare for bushfires with summer soon approaching.

“With the summer approaching and the increased possibility of grass and bushfires, it’s important that residents are as prepared as possible and have cleared their property of any overgrown vegetation,” she said.

“We know that fire preparedness is a shared responsibility, and this initiative is one of many steps we’re taking to support a safer summer for everyone in the City of Melton.”

Council has asked residents not to load off mixed loads of waste, limbs and branches more than 30cm in diameter, or contaminated or noxious garden waste.

The Melton Recycling Facility is open seven days a week from 8am to 4.30pm, excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Commercial operators and trucks are not eligible.
