Former Melton basketball coach caught filming children at Queensland beach

A former Melton basketball coach has been charged after allegedly filming children underwater at a Queensland beach.

Queensland police say James William Treasure used a recording device on his watch to film children at Noosa Heads.

He was arrested on July 6 and appeared at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on July 9 where he was refused bail.

Treasure has been charged with two counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count of committing public nuisance. He will reappear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 24.

Melton Basketball president Daniel Brady said the club would be meeting with parents tonight before releasing a statement.

As part of the investigation, Victoria Police’s Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team members executed search warrants at a Sunbury property.

Police spokesman Alex Day said it would be inappropriate to comment further because the investigation is ongoing.
