Payton, Tommy, Kaya and Whitiora (pictured) will be burying their heads in books for the next six months.
The Arnolds Creek Primary School prep pupils are aiming to read 30 books each by September, and they’re pretty sure they can beat that target.
Last year, more than 200,000 students from around the state took part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, reading more than four million books.
School principal Frank Pawlowicz said the challenge instilled in students a love of reading.
“Reading, full stop, is something that is very important,” Mr Pawlowicz said. “But this challenge creates a bit of atmosphere and a bit of competition, which is good.”
Education Minister James Merlino wished all participants “the best of luck”. “Not only meeting their goals, but also discovering a few great books along the way,” he said.
