’Tis the season for giving … and receiving.
Moorabool libraries will waive $2 from library fines for every can of food donated to its Food for Fines drive.
Mayor Allan Comrie has invited all residents, library members or not, to donate.
The food will be passed on to the Neighbours Place in Bacchus Marsh and Ballan District Health and Care for distribution to local people battling to provide food for their table.
“Neighbouring libraries have successfully run this program before so I thought it would be a good initiative for Moorabool Shire libraries and communities,” Cr Comrie said.
“The Food for Fines campaign is a way for library clients to contribute to a worthy cause and lower their fines at the same time.”
Fines will be waived for overdue charges only, not damaged or lost books. Donated food must have its packaging intact with use-by dates no earlier than February, 2016. The campaign runs until Friday, December 11.
