A Total Fire Ban has been declared in Wyndham and many other parts of Victoria for Wednesday due to catastrophic weather conditions being forecast.

The ban has been declared for the Central fire district (including Melbourne and Geelong) along with the Mallee, Wimmera, South West, Northern Country and North Central on February 28.

No fires can be lit, or be allowed to remain alight, in the open air from 12:01am until 11:59pm.

A top temperature of 38 degrees is expected in Melbourne on Wednesday, with many regional and rural areas expected to reach into the 40s.

Residents wanting to be sure on what they can and can’t do during a total fire ban are encouraged to visit the CFA website.

If at risk, residents are advised to leave early during extreme and catastrophic fire conditions and to download VicEmergency app and check the Fire Danger Rating regularly.

Wyndham council is also advising residents that Wednesday’s hot weather may result in kerbside rubbish collection starting earlier than usual.

To ensure their waste is still collected, households are advised to put their bins out on Tuesday evening.
