People of all cultural backgrounds will be welcomed at this year’s Melton Diwali celebrations. The five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world coincides with the Hindu new year and celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The Melton Angels group will host a community event on October 29 at the civic centre to mark the festival. Highlights of the day include dance shows, games, a fashion show, food stalls and entertainment. Organiser Sonal Wahi said the aim was to unite the community while preserving their own traditions.
