Eynesbury Country Fire Authority volunteers have used a small shed as their brigade headquarters for three years – big enough to fit one truck, but nothing more.

So when the fireys moved into their new station at St Arnauds Road, it was a “big leap forward”. Now they’re looking forward to showing off their new emergency centre.

“We were very limited in what we could and couldn’t do beyond our operational response,” first lieutenant Shane Bailey said.

“It’s definitely a big step forward to have a facility that fits two trucks comfortably and is able to train volunteers.”

The team has organised an open day next month and is looking forward to meeting everyone … especially the youngsters.

“We open the doors of the station to allow the community to meet the volunteers and find out what we do, and answer any questions they may have,” Mr Bailey said.

“And it’s a fun way for the kids to get involved.”

The new station includes two bays for fire trucks, a dedicated training space, a kitchen and storage shed. The open day is Sunday, October 11, 1.30-4pm.

A golf day to raise money for the brigade will be held on Friday, October 16, from 7am. Tickets: $120. For more information, call Melanie on 0418 814 460.
