Emergency commissioner appointed

The state government has appointed Tim Wiebusch ESM as Victoria’s Emergency Management Commissioner.

Mr Wiebusch, who is currently Acting Emergency Management Commissioner and has more than 30 years’ experience within emergency services and government agencies, has been appointed for a five year term.

He has extensive experience leading multi-agency and sector responses to major emergencies, including the 2019-20 eastern Victoria bushfires, June 2021 floods and storms, October 2022 Victorian floods, the 2024 severe weather events and this year’s bushfires.

As Chief Officer Operations for Victoria’s State Emergency Service (VICSES) since 2017, Mr Wiebusch was responsible for overseeing the development of volunteer specialist and incident management capabilities.

Mr Wiebusch said that keeping Victorians safe was a responsibility he took seriously.

“I look forward to working closely our many dedicated staff and volunteers within agencies and departments to build the communities confidence in our sector’s preparedness, response, relief and recovery capabilities across all emergencies,” Mr Wiebusch said.

Emergency Services Minister Vicki Ward said Mr Weibusch was a seasoned leader with extensive experience across some of the state’s biggest emergency responses.

“Mr Wiebusch will do a fantastic job to ensure Victorians are prepared for, can respond to and recover from emergencies,” Ms Ward said.
