Big Friendly Giants, princes and princesses, wizards and warriors strutted the catwalk at Rockbank Primary School’s book week festivities last week.

The parade, featuring students dressed as their favourite book characters, was the highlight of the school’s Book Week celebrations.

Other special celebrations included a book sale and storytime with the principal for the entire school.

Supervising teacher Sharon Kenshole said the pupils enjoyed dressing as a variety of book characters.

“With girls, we had a number of Disney princesses including Elsa from

Frozen and Snow White, and the boys favoured Harry Potter and the Incredible Hulk,” Ms Kenshole said.

The winner in the costume stakes was a youngs Mary Poppins.

Ms Kenshole said the aim of the week was to encourage a love of books among the children with various arts and literacy projects.

“We hope that the children develop a love and interest for reading and that they continue reading into old age.”
