More than 6000 Victorians have signed a petition calling on Melton MP Don Nardella to resign from Parliament and repay more than $175,000 he claimed in entitlements.
Radio station 3AW launched a petition on Wednesday morning calling on members of Parliament to “stand for decency, transparency and act always in the public interest”.
The petition is also calling on former speaker Telmo Languiller, who also claimed the second residence allowance but paid it back earlier this month, to retire at the next election.
Social media users have blasted Mr Nardella, and called on the government to “stop the rort”.
“I feel very much for the people of Melton, which has lots of challenges and we have a local member who believes in self-interest first, second and third — not the people he represents,” one wrote.
The petition had 6450 signatures at noon on Wednesday.
