Staff and supporters of Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services had plenty to sing and dance about as they celebrated 25 years of training job seekers in the west.

Past and present students packed Melton community house to mark the milestone last Wednesday.

Chief executive Trish Heffernan said students, past and present, leave Djerriwarrh with skills, knowledge, confidence and the sense of self worth needed to enter the workforce.

“We feel Djerriwarrh is very important to the community and the people of the west, and believe our longevity is testament to this,” she said.

“In the past year, the services assisted 366 eligible job seekers through our Skills for Education and Employment program in the west.

“After completing one of our courses, many students go on to a rewarding career, where this may otherwise not have been possible.”

Celebrations kicked off with Melton Secondary College’s cultural group Multination performing a traditional Samoan siva (dance), and some of Djerriwarrh’s former students and supporters spoke of recent achievements.

Melton MP Don Nardella, Jobs Australia chief executive David Thompson also attended.
