To help keep the Melton safe and prepared for the fire season, residents can drop off
green and garden waste for free at the Melton Recycling Facility from November 1 until
December 31.
Melton City Council’s annual free green waste disposal period is held to encourage both
property owners and renters to tidy up to prepare for the upcoming fire season.
All household green waste can be dropped off at the Melton Recycling Facility – which is open
seven days a week between 8am and 4.30pm – free of charge.
Free disposal will be available until December 31 except for Christmas Day.
Anyone wanting to take advantage of the service must present identification and proof of
residency, on arrival.
Commercial operators and trucks will not be allowed. Mixed loads will also not be permitted.
Limbs and branches must be smaller than 30cm in diameter.
Melton mayor Lara Carli said council wants to help and support Melton resident to be as prepared as possible for summer.
“We hope to see as many households as possible take advantage of this initiative and ensure
our community is as best prepared as it can be in the event of a bushfire,” she said.
“This annual initiative will ensure property owners can best prepare their home or land,
including clearing any overgrown vegetation, ahead of the summer bushfire season.’’
