Diggers Rest students “remember them”

Hundreds of people gathered at the newly erected Anzac memorial in the Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve on Remembrance Day last week to pay tribute to servicemen and women who lost their lives in times of war.

Diggers Rest Primary School principal Rachelle Hedger said the Remembrance Day event had focused on students and their understanding of the ending of World War I.

“Students from grades prep to 6 [had] key roles in the ceremony, including technical support, wreath laying, presentations, personal reflection and flag raising,” Ms Hedger said.

“It’s hoped this will increase their commitment to, and understanding of, Remembrance Day.”

The memorial was a joint project of the school, Diggers Rest Lions Club and St Genevieve Estate.
