Laurence Pincini always thought he was an average-sized bloke.
But a trip to the doctor earlier this year said otherwise. The 50-year-old was told he was overweight and needed to get moving.
“I’ve always considered myself to be a reasonable, standard size; I didn’t think I was very big,” Mr Pincini said.
“And being a typical male, we don’t usually go to the doctors … we have to start breaking those barriers.
“We’re not indestructible and we need to start being more conscious of our health.”
The GP’s advice to Mr Pincini came just in time for this year’s Movember, so Mr Pincini and his workmates at Rockleigh Tours got serious about moving and ‘mos’.
The tour operator team members have raised more than $800 for the men’s health-promoting Movember Foundation and have committed themselves to continuing a conversation about mental and physical health.
“I’ve had a brother and friend who took their own lives,” Mr Pincini said.
“There are so many different aspects of men’s health that get swept under the carpet.
“We talk about road tolls and terror tolls – we need to talk more about mental health and we need to highlight it.”
