Diggers Rest farewells a legend

Laurie Pincini was a stalwart of the Diggers Rest community – a father, grandfather, football fan, farmer and bus driver.

Mr Pincini died last week surrounded by his family and farewelled in Sunbury on June 15.

The local entrepreneur ran the family-owned Animal Land Children’s Farm in Diggers Rest for nearly 30 years and established the Rockleigh Tours bus company in the area in 1993.

An avid football fan, he was also a life member of the Diggers Rest Football Club.

His son and namesake Laurie Pincini remembered him as a “much-loved father and grandfather”.

“Early this week dad passed with family by his side,” Laurie wrote in a tribute.

“He will sadly be missed.

“There have been many tears but a lot more laughs and smiles as we remember the fantastic times and life he gave to us.”

Another tribute by Diggers Rest Football Netball Club recalled Mr Pincini’s generosity.

“Laurie was our club president in 1989 and 1990, a life member and was a founding member of the Burras Club, our original supporters club,” the post stated.

“Laurie would donate his double-decker bus for many mystery bus tours and Christmas break-ups were often held at their farm Animal Land.

“Our thoughts are with the Pincini family at this time.”

Granddaughter Lauren said that Mr Pincini was “so proud” to be part of the Burras football club.

“He refused to come and visit when he couldn’t find his life member badge,” she wrote.

“Thank you to everyone for offering your condolences and support.”
