Pearl Ewert believes that family and a lot of love are the ingredients for a long life.

The Rockbank resident will celebrate her 100th birthday in a matter of weeks with her loved ones in Melton.

Mrs Ewert turned her hand to baking and making preserves while raising six children and her talents were rewarded with many blue ribbons at the Melbourne Easter Show and country shows for more than two decades.

She and her late husband, Ernest, moved to Rockbank nearly 60 years ago to train horses and raise their family.

“My greatest challenge in life was raising my family,” Mrs Ewert said.

Daughter Roslyn told

Star Weekly that her mum dedicated her life to the family.

“She’s had an interesting life with all of her children,” she said. “She’s got a son who was a very top tennis player for Australia [Ernie Ewert jr] and she loved travelling the world with him when he was on the tennis circuit.

“She’s a lover of life and Australian women’s magazines and still knits and keeps herself busy.”

Mrs Ewert will celebrate her birthday on March 3 with her children, 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
