Kurunjang carpenter Curtis Williams has set his sights on the big stage after making the state finals of a national DJ competition.
Mr Williams has been DJing at venues across Melbourne for the past three years, and has received a wildcard entry into the Your Shot competition, a national DJ talent search attracting thousands of entrants.
Mr Williams will compete at the Victorian finals on August 10 and 11, and said music became a passion many years ago.
“I first knew I wanted to be a DJ when a friend of mine took me to one of his gigs where I first experienced the energy of a crowd and the pure joy it gave my friend as he was playing,” Mr Williams said.
“From that moment, I realised that my love for music was able to be enjoyed for not just myself but an entire audience.”
Mr Williams said he was looking forward to taking his opportunity at the state finals.
“It seems that these days DJing has become more about how many people you can get through the door rather than the skills that you can bring to your sets,” he said.
“Your Shot is a massive opportunity. Making friends with people with the same passion and it is something that could open the door to chances that would otherwise may be out of reach as an unknown DJ from a small Victorian town.”
