Countdown to term one at new Truganina school

Mindalk Primary School will welcome its first students when the new school year begins in just a few weeks.

The Truganina school is one of 19 new schools opening for term one, and was visiting by acting premier and Education Minister Ben Carroll this week.

Designed to support modern learning, the new school features an administration and library building, alongside three learning neighbourhoods housing contemporary classrooms.

The site also includes a community hub with dedicated spaces for music and art, hard courts and a full-sized sports field in a bid to provide opportunities for both learning and recreation.

The state government said the school has been purpose-built as an inclusion school, with facilities designed to better support students with a disability through specialised sensory areas, accessible play spaces and wider corridors to ensure all students can move comfortably and safely.

Foundation principal Blayne Wallis will lead the school, bringing decades of experience in teaching for educational leadership across a number of schools.

In a bid to support young families and ease the morning routine, a new kindergarten is in the works to be delivered next door to the school. The kinder will offer 99 places for local children, in an aim to help families with multiple children avoid multiple drop-offs while ensuring students get the best possible start to their education.

Mr Carroll said the new schools were vital to keeping pace with Victoria’s rapid population growth.
